Anaerobic digestion is a fermentation which stabilizes organic materials (sludges) while changing them as much as possible into methane and carbon dioxide.

An agitator installed in a digestion tank keeps sludge in suspension, prevents floating coat from rising and allows gas to come out of the tank.
